Liverpool will go to Madrid

After vociferous appeals from Liverpool, UEFA have realised the incredulity of their decision, and next Wednesday’s clash against Atletico Madrid will go ahead at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

Around 3,000 Liverpool fans had already made travel arrangements for the game which UEFA threw in to doubt earlier this week when they banned Atletico from hosting their next two European games.

Rick Parry, who had expressed the anger of Liverpool fans said:

“We’re delighted at the decision because it means our fans can travel to the game as previously planned without additional expense or inconvenience.

“Liverpool are grateful for the help the FA have provided and pleased Uefa have listened to and acted on the arguments we put forward this week.”

However, for Atletico the lifting of the ban is likely to be temporary.

They could face their final group game away from Madrid, and if they qualify from the group may also see their first knockout game staged away from the Spanish capital.
