It may not be the Premiership, but Liverpool’s second string side defeated Blackburn Rovers away to secure the Barclays Premier Reserve League (North) with 2 games still left to play.
Gary Ablett’s side, packed with some real talent now, have been formidable this season and continuing Liverpool’s fine traditions from the Youth sides in recent years.
It was Kristzian Nemeth, the reds talented Hungarian striker, who scored the goal that sealed the game with a classic striker’s goal in the first half.
Nemeth and Daniel ‘The Kid’ Pacheco have been fantastic for the reserves this season and will hopefully become real prospects for Benitez to in the coming seasons.
Liverpool play with zip and style, and fully deserve the Championship crown.
However, the reds will have to play a tie against the winners of the ‘Southern’ League to determine the overall Reserve champions. Aston Villa are currently heading the Southern League.
So a big congratulations to all of the players and staff involved with the reserves. To the players we hope you continue to develop and give Benitez some real head-aches when you break in to the first team. And congratulations to Gary Ablett, who has done a fantastic job since returning to Liverpool. I apologise wholeheartedly for slagging you off a couple of times in your ‘playing’ days. 😉
Liverpool Reserves Line Up: Martin, Darby, Insua, San Jose, Huth, Ayala (Plessis 77), El Zhar, Spearing, Pacheco (Bruna 59), Nemeth (Simon 77), Flynn. Unused subs: Gulacsi, Kelly.
