Liverpool’s Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel finished their latest World Cup qualifying games for their countries with early substitutions.
Fernando Torres was substituted for Spain after just seventeen minutes with a suspected thigh injury and early reports suggest he is most likely to miss the upcoming home league game against Wigan this Saturday. Although there could be a chance that he might miss the important Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, pending on further analysis of his injury. No doubt, this would be a cruel blow to Liverpool’s number 9 on a personal level.
Ryan Babel was forced to leave the field for Holland after twenty seven minutes, but the nature of his injury is yet to be confirmed.
Rafa Benitez will be troubled once again after another international break, where the team selection is concerned before an important league game. But there was also some good news to bring back to Melwood after the International break.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard got England off to a winning start with a perfectly placed shot from 31 yards. This will do his confidence no harm at all going back to Melwood and it will give some pessimists who have wondered about Steven Gerrards ability for England, proof that you can never write this great player off – something reds fans have known only too well over the years.
Robbie Keane and Yossi Benayoun were also on target for their coutries again last night. So a good night in some respects. But we wait to see the extent of the injuries to Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel.
Beyond a joke. While we still should beat Wigan without Torres yet again these International games create problems for our side.
As I had predicted. Club’s managers should make action on this. One thing i was longing for is Torres facing his previous club.
