Liverpool have won the Dallas Cup after a 3-0 victory in the Super Group final last night against the Mexican club Tigres.
The U19 championship category was won by the reds in what is a lively international youth tournament.
The reds talented Hungarian forward Kristzian Nemeth started the goalscoring with a strike in the 10th minute after receiving a pass from Ray Putterill.
The reds doubled the lead in the 25th minute through Martin Kelly before Nemeth capped a fine display with the 3rd and final reds goal in the 90th minute.
In total the reds scored 26 goals in the tournament, conceding only 3 times. The reds beat, amongst others, Portugese side Benfica in the semi-finals.
Reds coach Gary Ablett was pleased with the tournament victory.
“Tigres played well both times against us.
“Obviously we were too strong on both occasions.”
Local boy Tom Hicks, the reds beleaguered co-chairman, was there to present the trophy to Liverpool, heading straight to ‘Pizza Hut Park Stadium’ to watch the game after returning from a family holiday.
“I know it’s been a great experience for the boys. They wanted to win, and they did.”
Some positives to take back with us after the Man U game. Time for the boys to step up soon. Perhaps, some of them can be brought into the 1st team for some nurturing and guidance, in time, they might be able to dominate the League just like how they dominate the Reserves.
