The enforced marriage of Rafa Benitez and Rick Parry continues after clear the air talks at Anfield.
Benitez had blamed Parry for the lack of activity over the past four months on the Gareth Barry transfer, but now accepts that the decision was wholly that of the owners who decided that the player did not meet their ‘value expectations’.
The pair are now working together to try to ensure that Liverpool purchase some other targets before the September 1st transfer deadline.
Benitez had little to say apart from:
“Clear the air talks have taken place.
“It was a positive discussion and we will now move forward together.“
While Parry was also to the point.
“I can confirm that we had a friendly and positive meeting and we’re moving forward.”
Chocolates and flowers were not traded at the meeting, however Parry’s weak grip at Anfield remains.
Liverpool are reported to be interested in both Albert Reira and Stewart Downing as a replacement left winger for the departing Harry Kewell.
Glad to hear ‘clear the air’ talks have been held – hopefully this means we can now:
1. Allow Rafa to carry on with his good work
2. Get rid of Parry once and for all
Not keeping Rafa abreast of all developments surrounding the Barry negotiations is unacceptable!
On the other positive front, great to see Gerrard playing very well yest despite being deployed out of position. Lampard rightfully got booed off as Stevie G lifted a lacklustre English performance on a night where they played like the away team (with hardly any firepower when counter-attacking).
Downing looked good down the left for England and lets hope there is positive development on that front in the next week or so.
