“You have a great pedigree there. He is a young lad, very quick, which is good for the Premier League and I’m sure he will do very well.”
The vice-captain also issued a reminder to the board that the reds must now not allow other clubs to continue to use their financial muscle as an advantage.
“If other teams are spending double what you are spending on players they have an advantage on you,” said the England defender.
“If we want to bridge that gap we have to go in at the top end of the market.”
