Five members of the FA Youth Cup winning squad have been given extended contracts up until 2010 the club have today announced.
Youth side captain Jay Spearing along with Craig Lindfield, Ryan Flynn, Stephen Darby and Robbie Threlfall have been rewarded for their performances. These players moved up to the first team squad at the end of last season, and we hope that all five get some opportunities to shine in the coming season.
Earlier today, it was announced that the reds had snatched 16 year old Dani Pacheco from Barcelona on a three year deal. The striker was one of the Barcelona youth systems prized assets and he even turned down professional terms at Barca to move to Liverpool.
The player is nicknamed ‘The Killer’ amongst his teammates (hopefully due to his goalscoring exploits).
The youth coach at Barcelona, Garcia Pimienta, had this to say:
“It is a great loss for the club because he is a forward with a lot of quality
“He has been our top goalscorer and has already played for the youth team.
“Alongside Thiago Alcantara and Gai Assulin, he is one of the cadets we had the most hope for, but nothing can be done anymore.
“Everything happened very suddenly.”
