Liverpool are currently top of Group E but are not yet guaranteed a place in the last 16.
The reds have failed to get out of their group in the last two attempts but will be aiming for third time lucky - a win or a draw will be enough for the reds to go into the hat for the round of 16.
Spartak Moscow need victory to ensure they remain in the competition and after a 1-1 draw against Liverpool back in Moscow they hammered Sevilla 5-1 at home to make the group extremely interesting
In tonight's other tie Sevilla travel to Maribor. Maribor have nothing to gain from a victory - they cannot achieve Europa League qualification.
If Liverpool and Sevilla somehow finish on the same number of points then the reds have the advantage over the Spanish side as Liverpool scored more away goals in the meetings between the two clubs.
Keep up to date with tonight's game in our updates below.
As it happened...
Liverpool Under 19's had already secured top spot in their UEFA Youth League group but finished their campaign with a 2-0 victory earlier today.
Steven Gerrard's side beat Spartak Moscow thanks to first half goals from Curtis Jones and George Johnston.
The young reds end with 15 points out of a maximum 18.
Reminder that Joel Matip is ruled out, whilst both Ragnar Klavan and Joe Gomez have recovered from their illnesses towards the end of last week.
Not expecting to see Gini Wijnaldum in central defence again tonight...
Philippe Coutinho captains Liverpool tonight.
Liverpool: Karius, Gomez, Klavan, Lovren, Moreno, Can, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Firmino.
Subs: Mignolet, Milner, Henderson, Sturridge, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke, Alexander-Arnold.
Some players have returned to the Spartak side that were missing for our first leg clash against them.
Captain Denis Glushakov, striker Ze Luis and the talented Dutch winger Quincy Promes being the most significant new additions.
Back in August we took a look at the potential earnings for Liverpool after they overcame Hoffenheim in the qualifying rounds.
If the reds qualify for the knockout tonight that will be worth around £12M for Liverpool - in prize money for reaching the last 16, extra TV money and of course another Anfield sell out Champions League game.
Here's the boss and his pre-match thoughts
"I thought the best way not to lose is to win the game. Like always, we will need perfect organisation and we show our respect for the opponent with our attitude in the game.
"No line-up gives you the guarantee for a win, we always work with probabilities and stuff like this.
"It’s a completely different game (to the first leg), they have a different side with three or four important players back in the squad.
"There is no difference in our approach because you cannot go with the intention to draw for 90 minutes, that does not work.
"We have to work, be well organised and play football. It is our home game and we are a strong side, so we should show that – we should show what we are fighting for.”
Klopp and the players are out on the training pitch - the reds warming up while the Liverpool boss keeps one eye on the opposition players to assess their mood.
The Liverpool players are wrapped up warm in their black and orange training zip tops.
It seems there has been a lot of money behind Liverpool and not so much behind Spartak Moscow.
The Russian side are a very large 15/1 to get a win at Anfield tonight - Liverpool are 1/5 - huge favourites for a Champions League game.
We are underway at Anfield.
A big night for the reds looking to qualify out of the Champions League for the first time in 3 attempts inside the last 9 years.
Spartak kick off towards the Kop.
Spartak not allowing Liverpool's defenders too much time to settle - they've got a high forward line and have started positively.
They need a win remember to go through themselves.
Hang on, Salah has been fouled - PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL!
4 minutes gone
Coutinho fires in the penalty!!!
Liverpool 1-0 Spartak Moscow - what a start
Georgi Dzhikiya picked up a yellow card for that foul that led to a penalty.
And now Emre Can has gone into the book in the 7th minute. He will miss the next match in this tournament. The referee has brought his cards!
Liverpool starting to purr. Coutinho flicks it over to Mane - his angle is tight and he lashes it at the side netting. He had a lot to do there.
Elsewhere...
Maribor have taken a 1 goal lead v Sevilla!
15' Wonderful move from Liverpool. Phil Coutinho gets his second goal of the night.
Mo Salah runs forward he finds Firmino and it's a cool patient pass back across the penalty area for Coutinho to finish.
Liverpool 2-0 Spartak Moscow.
19th minute
We're running away with this!
Roberto Firmino gets his goal - another quick run from the reds and the Brazilian is quickest to react to a Mane shot that is rebounded off a defender.
Absolutely stunning.
Thought we were on for the 4th goal just then.
Electrifying pace from Mohammed Salah he finds Coutinho who is running in at pace and just as he is about to pull the trigger Luis Adriano gets back and the two players feet connect.
Coutinho is limping a little bit - seemed to jar his foot. We'll keep an eye on that.
35'
Salah backheels - Mane is running at full speed but he fires his shot over the bar as the defender tries to slide in.
Klopp on the touchline giving out more orders - it looks like he thinks that Liverpool could be doing better here!
Pass into Liverpool's area and Lovren stretches. The ball rebounds and a shot comes in but it's a good block by Ragnar Klavan.
Moreno is currently down after he blocked another shot. His ankle appeared to twist heavily as he put in that challenge. James Milner warming up.
Moreno back on the pitch. We're nearly at half time so we can see what happens then. He does appear to be struggling.
45 minutes on the clock and a tearful Alberto Moreno has to go off with that injury. Milner on.
Warm applause from the Anfield crowd.
Liverpool 3-0 Spartak Moscow
The reds are in cruise control and the only negative was that injury to Moreno's ankle just before half time. As they say in the business - that'll swell up in the morning!
Coutinho with 2 goals and Firmino with a deserved third goal for the reds. Mane has had his chances to join the goalscorers but hasn't done so.
Yet.
We're back underway. Liverpool kicking towards the Kop in this half.
Will that equal more goals for the reds?
48th minute
And Sadio Mane does get his goal!
Great cross from the left wing by Milner and Sadio Mane absolutely leathers that into the net. Stunning.
50th minute
Captain Phil Coutinho hat-trick. Takes a big deflection but we're giving it to the Brazilian!
That goal also means that Liverpool are the highest scoring English team in any Champions League group stage.
60' Dejan Lovren off for Trent Alexander Arnold. Joe Gomez moves over into the middle to partner Ragnar Klavan.
Looks like an entirely tactical substitution what with the current injury to Joel Matip - protecting Lovren for the derby at the weekend.
Urgency has gone out of this game now. Liverpool quite comfortably at 5-0 and Spartak resigned to their fate.
There is still just over 20 minutes to go though but you get the feeling Liverpool players may be thinking about the weekend's derby now.
72' Off goes Roberto Firmino and on comes Daniel Sturridge for the final period of this game.
76' Salah feeds the ball to Sturridge - he plays the ball just behind Sadio Mane but the forward manages to slow his run and pokes the ball over the line.
It's Liverpool 6-0 Spartak Moscow.
84' Chance there for Sturridge - great run and ball in from Alexander-Arnold but Sturridge couldn't direct it towards the goal and it goes over.
86' A very happy Anfield as Mo Salah gets his first goal of the night - his 18th of the season. He takes his time in the area before lashing it into the top of the net.
SEVEN NIL!
Wow.
Liverpool 7-0 Spartak Moscow
Here's the teams through to the next round. Liverpool can't face Chelsea but can face all the other 2nd placed sides
A wonderful night from the reds and we look forward to hearing what the boss made of that performance.
Because at times in that first half - he thought we could have been doing more.
Great win, great goals and we didn't even mention the clean sheet!
Join us again when we try and score another 7 past Everton!
