Hughie McAuley has been involved with Liverpool since 1990, since working part time at the Academy. It was Steve Heighway who was the Academy Director who offered him a full time job with the club.
He coached the Under 19's at the Academy and was a major part of the triumpant FA Youth Cup winning side of 1996 featuring the likes of Michael Owen who eventually went on to break in to the Liverpool first team.
He has also been involved in the development of both Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.
In 2005/06 he moved up to help coach the reserve team alongside manager Gary Ablett before going back to being heavily involved with the youth sides at the Academy.
Hughie left Liverpool in a massive shake up of the Academy and Reserves set up in the summer of 2009.
