I write this just after the defeat to Portsmouth to knock us out of the FA Cup. Look on the bright side though - it has saved us all another 25 quid to watch Arsenal tear us apart in the Quarter Finals.

Gerard Houllier is a man who is now living on the edge. His reaction to the supporters the other week, and his shrugging of shoulders after this defeat only serve notice of his loose grip on the club.

It's been a bad season. There are no two ways about that. His refusal to accept how bad it has been though it what grates on me in particular. Maybe he is just an eternal optomist, convinced that by praising his players week in week out maybe one day they will repay his faith.

The whole Michael Owen saga continues to rumble on, and to be perfectly honest, I couldn't care less whether he stays or goes anymore. One man does not make the team, the most important Liverpool philosphy. Michael Owen is not central to Liverpool winning a Championship - Arsenal and United don't have him and they've won the league a few times over the years. Owen can be replaced, and Gerard Houllier would do to remember that he can be too.
