Philippe Coutinho is set for an extended period on the sidelines following his shoulder injury.
The player was withdrawn during Monday's 2-2 draw with Swansea and scans revealed that the player requires surgery on his shoulder.
Since arriving in January the Brazilian has been a guiding light in the side and the team's improved results have reflected that.
The football club said:
"It's been decided Coutinho will now have surgical stabilisation on the AC joint in his shoulder."
The club went on to stress the player could be back in contention for the squad by the end of October, some 6 to 7 weeks away.
Liverpool have 5 Premier League games before the end of October, with an away trip to Arsenal on the 2nd November.
