The man who replaced Steven Gerrard in his testimonial is being lined up for a move to Bolton.
In a radio interview today Bolton manager Dougie Freedman insisted he would do everything he could to land Jay Spearing on a permanent deal.

The player spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and was so highly regarded that he was awarded the Player of the Season award by the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Association before capturing the club's own award later in the spring.
An online poll for Bolton supporters has 69% per cent of supporters rating Spearing’s capture as “vital” whilst another 27% think it would be positive for the team.
Speaking to BBC local radio, Freedman said:
"Jay is a fantastic player, our player of the season, and available. We'll try our very best to make it happen."
"We've got Financial Fair Play and I've got a responsibility to this football club
"We've done very well with free transfers. If somebody like Jay comes up and the deal is right for the football club, then yes, we will be looking at that."
Jay Spearing himself refused to rule anything in or out at the end of last season when speaking to the media in Bolton:
“I’m not going to say yes or no at this point and it probably won’t be for me to decide.
“The gaffer has got to want me in the first place, hasn’t he?
“But I’ll go away on holiday in the summer and then come back, sit down with Liverpool and with my agent to decide what happens.”
Jay is believed to have turned down an offer from Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer after the two clubs reached agreement - and although he has been involved with Liverpool's pre-season it appears a move to Bolton Wanderers would suit both parties.
Bolton will do anything to sign him as long as it doesn’t involve paying a fee or all of his wages.
