Liverpool ended their run of home draws, finally picking up the full three points their display deserved.

Suarez scores against QPR

The reds had plenty of half chances in the first half, but broke the deadlock in the second minute of the second half – when Luis Suarez rose to head home from a Charlie Adam cross.

With the injury to Lucas Leiva, and the suspension of Jay Spearing, the reds returned to a more traditional 4-4-2 formation – starting with both Stewart Downing and Maxi Rodriguez.

The reds had plenty of possession in the first half, and were wasteful with their 10 corners.  Luis Suarez was a constant thorn in the QPR defence, skilfully spinning past defenders, and firing passes across the goalline – the reds only downfall being that both Maxi and Kuyt had not moved high enough up the pitch to dispatch the chances.

The best chance of the first half saw Suarez send a ball through to Rodriguez, who was denied in the one on one with the keeper.

Suarez also was denied by Radek Cerny when he attempted a chip from a tight angle just before the break.

Liverpool came out in the second half immediately on the front foot, and Suarez did well to find space and head the winning goal in to the Kop net.

QPR had a brief spell of pressure – when they won themselves a few corners.  The reds made a couple of changes and returned to the attack.  In the dying minutes of the game, Shaun Wright Philips was forced in to defensive duty and put the ball on to his own crossbar.

The reds move up to 6th and travel to Villa Park next week.
