Liverpool’s overseas defensive duo, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger, have both been speaking at their delight at Liverpool’s solid start to the campaign.
Carroll, Suarez and Henderson have all been amongst they goals so far.
The reds are unbeaten this season in all competitions and have matched their best league starts of the last 17 years.
Martin Skrtel, only recently back from injury, was forced in to the action in the first half in the unfamiliar role of right back – even popping up with a goal along the way.
Speaking to the official site Martin said:
For this season we signed a few new players and we have a really strong squad now.
“It doesn’t matter who is playing now. We have maybe 22 players and everyone can play in a game. That’s very good and we can compare to the best teams in the Premier League.
“I can say we are playing in one of the best periods since I came to the club.
“We had a target at the start of the season. Now we’ll just try to win every single game, get as many points as possible and qualify for the Champions League.
“I’m delighted because it’s only my fourth goal for LFC, so I’m happy.”
Such is the improvement in competition for places, Skrtel insists he would be happy to play wherever the manager deems fit.
“Right-back is not my position but if the manager needs me there, I’m happy to play there. It’s quite different from playing in the middle but I’ll be happy if I play every single game for the club – it doesn’t matter which position! I will always try to do my best for the club.”
Meanwhile Daniel Agger also had praise for the direction the club is heading. Agger was a casualty of Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool last year. At one point, in an interview with Danish TV, he insisted that he didn’t fit in to Roy Hodgson’s plans as the then manager was only interested in a long ball game.
But one year on and things have changed. Agger said:
“My philosophy of how I want to play fits in with how the team is playing at the moment. That’s the way we all want to play.
“We have some quality passers in the team and we’re playing it on the ground – that’s what people like to see.
“Results are the most important thing but if you can play like that it’s a bonus.
“You play good football. Things are going the right way and everyone is enjoying themselves.
“For a team like Liverpool who want to go forward all the time, it’s been so good this year that so many quality players have come in.
“To make the team stronger we need players like that. It’s been really good and it’s a joy to go into Melwood every day to train.
“The way we have started the season is a combination of a lot of things – a strong squad, a good manager and good coaches.
“But there are still a lot of things we can do better. To move forward we need to be consistent.
“We’ve only played three games so it’s a bit early to say what we might do.”
Liverpool’s next game is Stoke City away on the 10th September, after the international break – a game that the reds were not only beaten in last year but comprehensively outplayed. Agger and Skrtel will be hoping for a much better experience at the Britannia this time around.
