Luis Suarez could be involved in tomorrow’s Premier League opener against Sunderland, less than a week after returning to training with the club following his success at the Copa America.
Suarez, scored the winner for his country Uruguay, to win this summer’s international tournament. He was the last to return to Melwood for pre-season training and has not been available for any pre-season friendlies, but Dalglish insists that the player has been training well and a decision would be taken tomorrow morning.
Initial suggestions were that Suarez would be phased in to the side more gradually over the initial few weeks.
Dalglish in his pre-match press conference said:
“He’s trained and has no problem. We’ll wait and see how he is tomorrow. We’ll also see how Glen Johnson is in the morning.
“Obviously Steven and Martin Skrtel aren’t there and they are the only two. Everyone has come back from the international matches fine.”
After an improved second half of the season, Kenny Dalglish was turned from caretaker boss in to permanent manager, signing a 3 year contract. He admits that he is eagerly anticipating his first full season in charge of the club for over 20 years.
“We are all excited. Everybody looks forward to it. I suppose it’s a wee bit like Christmas day for the kids isn’t it?
“Everyone is looking forward to it – the clubs that have been promoted – everybody. We are no different and it will be the same for every other manager.
“The players have trained hard for five weeks to get here. It’s an exciting time for everybody at the football club. ”
“You always look forward to it in the same way. You look to get victories on the board. It’s the same every year. It’s a wee bit different if you are involved with a football club, but if you are a supporter you are anticipating and hoping for the best. We are no different really.”
Liverpool kick off against Sunderland tomorrow at 3pm at Anfield.
