Liverpool welcomed two new players to Anfield yesterday as the reds continued to do business in the summer transfer window.
After a month long chase, Liverpool finally secured the purchase of winger Stewart Downing from Aston Villa.
The player is believed to have signed a 5 year contract in a transfer deal of around £18M.
The 26 year old was unveiled with an interview from the club in which he spoke of his delight at the transfer.
“It’s a great feeling and I’m very happy to be here. It’s been a long time coming and I’ve had to wait a few weeks, but I’m really pleased to be here.
“With the tradition, the manager and the players they have here, there was a big temptation to come here and once I knew of their interest, there was only one place I wanted to go.”
It will be a great feeling to run out at Anfield. It’s always nice to come and play here. The atmosphere is always great and the fans are brilliant.
“When I wanted to come to Liverpool, it was the first thing I thought of – playing at Anfield in front of those great fans. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile Liverpool also completed the purchase of Brazilian keeper Alexander Doni from Roma.
The 31 year old passed a medical earlier this week and the contract was finally pushed through. The 31 year old is rumoured to have joined on a 2 year deal and will provide cover for Pepe Reina, who is still recovering from a double hernia operation he underwent at the end of the season.
