Liverpool’s John Flanagan has returned from the England Under 19 squad in Switzerland, after picking up a calf injury ahead of important European Championship qualifiers.
The 18 year old burst on to the Liverpool scene towards the end of the season, earning plaudits from the fans and the manager, with impressive turnouts at right back and left back for the reds.
Whilst disappointed at missing out on his potential debut for England, the player remains optimistic about his future:
“I’m obviously disappointed, particularly as I’ve not played for England before.
“But I won’t let it overshadow what has been a very good season for me and I’ll be raring to go when pre-season gets underway.”
The reds still have a further five players in the 17 man squad: Jack Robinson, Andre Wisdom, Conor Coady, Thomas Ince and Michael Ngoo. Shelvey was also in the squad, but ongoing knee problems forced his withdrawal.
