Liverpool crumbled to their 8th defeat in 18 Premier League games as they ended 2010 in the worst end of year position for 57 years.
The last time Liverpool entered the New Year in such woeful form, in 1954, they were relegated from English Football’s highest division.
Liverpool are now 3 points above the relegation zone, and a whopping 16 points off the league leaders.
Following the game Roy Hodgson launched an astonishing tirade against the Anfield faithful, suggesting they had never supported him and need to turn from ‘fans to supporters’.
It was never supposed to be like this.
Liverpool had a full fortnight off, as two games were postponed due to bad weather. They welcomed back a fully fit Steven Gerrard and Wolves, with the worst away record of any team in the entire country, were neatly placed on the very bottom of the Premier League.
However, the reds put in one of the most insipid performances ever witnessed at Anfield, making our Utrecht performance look like Brazil.
Roy had removed the central midfield partnership of Meireles and Lucas, and opted to place Meireles on the right wing and Dirk Kuyt on the left wing. Truly bizarre stuff.
The game wore on, Liverpool tactically devoid of ideas, until Wolves scored in the second half. The fury around the ground was palpable.
Moments later, Roy elected to replace David Ngog with Ryan Babel. Ngog had actually been one of the brighter sparks for Liverpool in a sorry team performance. The substitition did not go down well.
Chants of ‘Hodgson for England’ rang out amongst the Kop before ‘Dalglish’ was once again sung.
Paul Konchesky was subbed off late on for Fabio Aurelio, a move which was met with more widespread applause.
With 22 points from 18 games. With 8 defeats to 6 wins. It is clear to everyone that Hodgson will never regain the fans trust after tonight. It is clear to us that he does not have the ability to manage Liverpool.
This website warned 6 weeks ago that the sooner we change manager the better.
As it is NESV have done nothing, and Liverpool’s freefall towards potential relegation is coming true. NESV’s inaction has already cost us the chance of a potential top four finish. If they don’t act soon then thousands of Liverpool fans are going to become even more disillusioned as we head towards the Championship.
Awful tactics and terrible to watch are some of the words that come to mind!.Average players being played out of position makes even a relegation threatened team like Wolves seem good against us!
After a break of over two weeks you’d expect our boys to be up for it but they all appeared to be disinterested as if they’ve accepted being second rate to everyone. Not many options on the bench also means we need to spend big in the market otherwise complete meltdown awaits.PLEASE sack Hodgson now!
