Rafa defended his managerial credentials in front of an insatiable media scrum ahead of today’s massive European clash with Inter Milan at Anfield.
Benitez was continuously asked whether defeat would end his Anfield tenure to which he replied:
“I am surprised I am being asked a question about winning the Champions League to save my job.
“How many managers have won the Champions League once? Tell me? How many have got into the final twice in three years or won it twice? Think about the top managers in the Premier League and their record.”
“When I arrived here it was 21 years without winning the Champions League and 15 years without winning the Premier League.
“Why was that? But we are improving now and we have reached seven finals in three years, although the club still needs to improve.”
“But I am sure I can win more trophies for this club because my commitment is 100 per cent and I have a very clear idea of what is needed in the future.
“We need to change things and I have the confidence to do that.”
Well said Trev, I think that says it all for true Reds everywhere, those that don’t believe we can get through this ‘rough patch’ are not Red through and through. Rafa has done so much for this club already and given us so many happy memories, there’s no-one and I mean no-one who could replace him and do a better job in the circumstances. I’m 100% behind this man and hope to see him here next season bringing us number 19. 🙂 And who knows, possibly our 6th CL Final.

Think about the top managers in the Premier League and their record.” and still people on this site want to slate the man off and pray he gets the sack , to be replaced by whom ??? moriniho, who will only ever buy a team ,and even the yanks dont have that much cash. klinsman who’s managerial record is um….crap , and now from various sources were getting Martin O’Neil mentioned , you that guy who won 1 league cup with Leicester ( wow can see why we want him on board eh !!!!)so what we’ve had a bad season , so what we’ve only got the champions league left to fight for , new players have come into our team this season and for whatever reason , rotation , injuries ect its taking time for them to jell thats not an excuse it’s a fact. when im lucky enough to get up to anfield i get tears in my eyes every time i hear the famous anthem roaring out of the kop , there’s a line in that song which some of the guys on here should remember….walk on through the wind , walk on through the rain…well at the moment it appears to be blowing a gale and pissing down at the same time but true true reds will hold ther head high and keep moving forward…never stop believing
