Liverpool's new boy has a prolific record when played as a striker.
Liverpool’s summer free signing, Milan Jovanovic, has reiterated his desire to return to the level of performances he enjoyed at Standard Liege to help kick start the reds season.
“I am feeling much more positive. If I play bad, I will admit it and I will not be happy but I am at Liverpool and that means I will always, always give my best for this team.
“I was happy with how I played against Birmingham but I know I can do better. I haven’t made an assist or scored a goal but I am trying to turn it around.
“I am disciplined and trying to build an understanding with the other players. I am not in the best form but I feel I am getting better and this is very important.
“I can play better than I have shown so far. I know I can score goals and make assists for this team. I’m sure I can. When I do, I will be the happiest, luckiest man in the world.”
Milan has been operating on the wings for the reds so far this season, with seemingly little chance of getting a start up front. Many fans have noted that he looks like he could be better utilised as a target man alongside Torres.
“It was difficult at Birmingham but I think we did well. We controlled things in some parts but need to improve in other areas. We need to play with this kind of intensity.
“If we keep the ball and control the match, it will be much easier for us to make chances and we will become more dangerous in attack. Even still, I think it was better than the last two games.
“We played hard, we had discipline and we really tried to be dangerous in attack.
“It is going to take time because there are a lot of new players.
“But if we keep getting the ball to Stevie, we will be much better.
“I have no doubts that we will climb the table.
“The Premier League is tough but we are Liverpool. That is what matters.
“We have got to try and win every game and hopefully we can start on Thursday night.
“It will be difficult but we will be doing our best as always.”
Jovanovic is currently the reds third most ever present player of the season so far. The reds take on Steaua Bucharest on Thursday night.
In all seriousness I can’t see this guy getting in our strongest 11 when all are fit. Of course this depends upon how we line up, but the best Joe Cole has played in his entire career is as a wide left player in a 4-3-3 so it strikes me that we should play him there too, in which case where does Jovanovic play? A half decent squad player but in reality this guy isn’t really good enough, though I do accept the square pegs round holes idea. However, scoring goals in the prem is tricky, ask Kuyt.
Scored 53 league goals in 116 appearances for Standard Liege playing as a striker. Occasionally plays on the RIGHT for his country. Plays on the left wing for us. Defies logic doesnt it? Not surprising that he’s not settled in.
Agree with you. Seeing him on the left wing and Rodriguez on the right wing against Birmingham had me scratching my head.
No surprise we lacked any width.
I’m a Standard Liege fan, and to be honest: Jov ahas played numerous games on the left wing for our team, and not 1 game on the right wing. His best position is as a left attacker of course, but as a left midfielder he should do fine too.
