Following the calamitous situation at Anfield in recent years it appears that slowly but surely large sections of Liverpool’s support are beginning to mount a concerted campaign against the owners in what is widely seen as a last ditch attempt to save Liverpool Football Club.
While many Liverpool fans have been involved in numerous protests before games, at half time, and even after games there is a growing sense that a more targetted attack on the owner’s finances needs to be exercised. It appears that the only kind of demonstration they will feel is one that hits them square in the wallets.
In advance of the impending Spirit of Shankly meeting coming up already many supporters are insisting that they will boycott Liverpool home games as long as the current owners are at the club. For some time many fans have avoided buying official merchandise from either the clubs online store or altogether. (It is believed that the club make at least an extra £15 from a shirt bought at the store as opposed to an independent retailer).
Paul Tomkins, the acclaimed writer on all things Liverpool FC, has wished the staff of the official website well, but insists he will no longer be writing articles for the official site under the present ownership.
Next weekend sees an important fans meeting. It is likely that if match boycotting is instigated – Liverpool fans will protest outside the ground on match days.
It is the editorial view of Anfield Online that we will NOT be attending Liverpool home fixtures until the present owners have left the club.
QUICK FACTS
1. Bought the club for just over £200M 3 years ago using bank loans. Club now in £350M of debt. Owners want a whopping £800M to sell.
2. No new transfer spending in 2 years. Rumours that the reds have a transfer kitty of a dismal £5M for this summer.
3. Promised to start work on new stadium in 60 days. 3 and half years later. Nothing.
4. Promised not to place debt on the club. Club in £350M of debt.
5. Since they arrived the club have spent £110M on bank interest.
6. Liverpool currently waste £4000 per hour, £1M every 9 days on interest. This is the equivalent of paying the wages of another SEVEN Fernando Torres’. Or a £35M transfer budget per season.
7. New Chairman, Martin Broughton, a Chelsea fan, said he ‘came in only to sell the club’ in April 2010. By June 2010 he was responsible for deciding the manager should leave.
8. Tom Hicks’ took over a succesful club before, Corinthians. By the time he had finished asset stripping the club was bankrupt.
I believe that the only way the Liverpool supporters can make the Americans leave is to hit them where it hurts most – in the pocket. Boycott matches and merchandise.
Imran, I’m not spreading false rumours at all, I’m merely making a calculated suggestion. You’re the type of fan that has a very short memory. I hope you cherish Istanbul, victory in the Nou Camp, victory in the Bernabeu, victory in the San Siro, the mauling of Madrid at Anfield, the mauling of Utd. Garbage and negativity? You haven’t got a clue.
Have you seen the price increase for this season, they are a scandle. The kop has increased by £2.42 a game making it £680 for the season and that is if you pay by the early date. £732 if you pay by the last date. That has frozen me out now, so goodbye from me to Anfield. I shall just go and walk alone now.
Excellent – lets put Liverpool back into the hands of the fans and never let such abuse by greedy owners ever happen again at our club.
no good talking about this now,, this should have been done all this year at every home game, went to 15 home games last season and stayed behined to join in the anti – pwners, but at time looked around at some sad arse fans, or so called fans! and most where just happy to be taking pictures and buying stuff form the club store,,,, it mad me so angry why people thought this problem was just going to go away,, im sick of these new ideas which so called fans come up with, its a bit fucking late ,,, but we should as i have said done more aggressive things all along and i for one have been ready to do anything to get these con men out! for me the best way is to get up and walk out at halkd time and make sure this is followed by all,, then the sky tv and etc media will pick up on this ….. just think the kop walking out at half time in the first home game, painfull but what a message for these yanki c****…
if this doesnt work get into the club shop, and get as much as you can to stage a sit in in the shop and not move untill after 24 hours and stage a sit in, just think off the this news around the world
I’m a simple supporter with a PHd in Business who follows Liverpool FC. Who are these clowns who believes business can be run without debt. If you want success you have to invest, no one uses their own money, you only use someone elses.
The 2 owners are pushing the limit but the business can support the debt presently, however the business model used to but the club has been overtaken by world events. No one in football is in profit and successful.
So, do you supporter want success or do you want to be a ordinary team. Lets get back to supporting the team and drop the politics because most of the people doein the shouting cant even get there own finances right at ground level, god help us if they think they can run a company like LFC.
Drop the argument, the club will be sold, for better or worse and go the match and enjoy iy.
Note, we are mid table due to the manager not the owners!!
Dont be so narrow minded, where we finished in the table is not down to one single reason. It is down to multiple problems throughout the club, Rafa didn’t get the funds required to keep the team at that level, yes he made tactical mistakes as well as in the transfer market, the owners need to leave immediately!
I agree or hope(not sure) with what someone else said, I think that the club has been sold or is in the final stages of being sold, why would they sack rafa out the blue? i hope…..
Wake up folks. Rafa was only bombed becuase they’ve got a buyer lined up. Otherwise why did they wait so long to get rid? Speculation was rife that Rafa would walk before the season finished. The Juve deal never materialised and the board didn’t act then. Rafa’s flirtations with Juve were blatant and the board still didn’t pull the trigger. Once he got through that, Rafa believed he was staying. He seemed to weather the storm of speculation and all went quiet. Then suddenly out of the blue, the man charged with selling the club is giving Rafa his marching orders. I don’t buy it. With our current lack of money and the dross we’ve been linked with in terms of managing the club, it would have made more sense to keep Rafa at least until a buyer is found. Well that buyer is already here.
We’re talking facts not conspiracy theories here!.Unlike you can reveal who the new owners are i suggest you keep your rubbish to yourself!
You deal in realism don’t you? Why did the club not sack Rafa immediately if that’s what they planned to do? surely this would leave more time to find a new manager in the interim before the new season starts. If the ownership was guarunteed to be the same for at least another year them why get rid of him? Why waste money in getting rid of him? All I’m saying is that it makes sense for him to be bombed to make way for new owners.
By the way if you talk facts, why don’t you start getting some right about Rafa Benitez, the best Liverpool manager since Kenny Dalglish. FACT. Knee jerkers like you are not good for our club.
Digger,
If you consider the man whose team finsihed seventh in the league “the best since Dalglish” then i’d like to see what you call poor!.Rather it’s blind loyalty of your kind that can’t seperate class with garbage and negativity!
Unless you can name new owners i suggest you accept your previous error of spreading false rumours. The club were waiting for the end of the season to sack Rafa which they rightly did so if you fancy him so much then start supporting Inter Milan!.
I agree with Adam.
We the fans should buy the club. Last time this was presented as an idea they wanted £4,000 from each fan. Make it £1,000 and you will get far more support. This is a disaster but it’s our club and we need to fight for it.
Fans must just stay away from home games and ensure these greedy yanks feel their pockets going dry. They are the worst thing that happened to our beloved Liverpool FC. I used to think Americans as people are honesty people but with this little sample of George and Tom I have seen enough to be convinced that they are all dishonesty and incompetent to the core. How can one be so stupid not to see that the majority of people do not want you to run their affairs like these two morons? The Spirit of Shankly has our full support in trying to dislodge these two clueless muppets. They must sell now and get out of our club. YNWA
What’s new??.Us fan’s have been wanting these two out for years but they’ll only depart on their selfish terms.Fact is that no buyer will meet their price meaning more waiting or worse still losing our two best players who i don’t see hanging around long with these American’s idiots in-charge.
I have just about had enough of the way the club has been run since the yanks took over. This will probably be my last season as a ticket holder as the whole thing has got me down. I travel a distance so petrol is on top of my ticket money,as a retired person I can’t keep on putting money into the club for the yanks to steal it from us, and I can have a good holiday from the money I save. It is not the same but I can see most of the matches on tv or on the computer. Last year I bought my ticket by 19th June, but this year the club has been stalling in stating 2010 prices. I wonder why? Do the yanks want a huge increase in the ticket price as that is the only reason I can see for the delay. Are they argueing behind the scenes over the price?
Not sure how much you paid for a previous season ticket and I have never owned one, but I would be interested to know if there is much of a difference between old and new season ticket price.

Yes,the millions of fans should chip in and buy the club, they decide the future outcome and not waste the money on greedy owners taking the profits abroad, the profits could be put back into the club.
I believe ~spirit of shankly` should buy the club.we should all collect a sum of money from all the fans around the world and invest in liverpool.the club will be for liverpool fans and we can decide what to do.
Kind of a stupid idea suggesting all Liverpool FC fans around the world to stump up the money to buy the club and make decisions. Look at what has happened to the supporters of Man UTD – they have given up. It is a romantic idea that fans will be able to buy their dream football club, but a little unrealistic. If you think that all it takes is for X amount of million fans to donate £1 then dream on.
