Footballer Michael Owen’s partner Louise Bonsall has given birth to a baby girl.
The Liverpool and England striker who grew up in north Wales announced that Gemma Rose Owen was born at the Countess of Chester Hospital on Thursday.
Miss Bonsall said she was overjoyed by the new arrival: “This is the happiest day of my life. I am very tired but delighted. Gemma is absolutely gorgeous.”
Owen’s mother Janette and Louise’s mother Sue were among the first to reach the hospital and congratulate the young couple.
Both Louise and baby Gemma were said to be doing well and should be allowed home in the next few days.
The childhood sweethearts who announced they were expecting their first child last year have no immediate plans to marry.
Owen and former bank clerk Louise have known each other since primary school.
They grew up in Hawarden, Flintshire where Owen bought luxury homes for his parents and siblings.
Owen bought a £1.6m manor house in Soughton near Mold in time for his new arrival.
But before he moves in, he sought planning permission for a sophisticated electronic gate system to keep people away from the property.
He also plans to build a new swimming pool and fitness centre and has plans for a snooker room and horse stables.
