Andriy Voronin looks set to complete a transfer to his loan club, Hertha Berlin, but only on condition that the club qualify for the Champions League.
The Ukraine international has been on loan with the German club since last summer and is currently in a rich vein of form, having scored eight goals in the past 7 games.
Rafa Benitez signed the player on a free transfer two seasons ago but he failed to hold down a first team place at Anfield, his last Liverpool goal coming to win the pre-season friendly against Lazio last summer. According to Hertha Berlin, a fee has been agreed for around £3.5 million.
The President of the Bundesliga side, Werner Gegenbauer, said:
“We cannot go through with a transfer unless we have extra funds from the Champions League, so it depends on whether or not we qualify.
“We can give and receive no promise, but we have to wait and see what happens at the end of the season.”
Hertha are currently top of the Bundesliga with a one point lead. In Germany the top three sides qualify for the Champions League.
Voronin is set to play against England on Wednesday.
Boosha
Good luck to him and Hertha, he’s obviously found his feet in the Bundesliga.
Hope they end up qualifying and they sign him up, can’t see them getting very far but still.
As he was a free, anything we can get for him would be a bonus.
This guy has no kind words for Liverpool, now he is in a lower kind of league he has found his niche. Smart move by the reds he brings nothing to the table at Liverpool. Not many times you profit from a player.
I never expected him to come back to Liverpool to be honest. He did have a bad season last season only scoring 4 goals all season. I know, as Eurored said, 8 goals in 7 games is good but German football is nowhere near as competitive as English football so you cant really read too much into that. We could use that £3.5m to go towards a new, much younger striker. Hes not a massive loss as far as im concerned.
Saw Voronin at Toulouse in the August CL qualifier.
Got us the away goal.
8 goals in 7 games in the Bundesliga… aint bad people!
