FA Premiership
Sat 14th March 2009 @ 12:45pm, Old Trafford
Liverpool travel to Old Trafford seven points behind United who have a game in hand over the reds. Liverpool will be looking to complete a league double over United, after this season’s 2-1 victory at Anfield. Both clubs had impressive home victories in the Champions League in mid-week and United are on an 11 game winning run in the Premiership. Like Liverpool, they haven’t been defeated at home in the Premiership this season.
Man Utd’s players have been in the media recently – Wayne Rooney confessing his ‘hate’ for Liverpool and Rio Ferdinand also sticking his oar in.
The faint possibility of an unchanged Liverpool side looms large with Torres expected to return to Premiership action.
A reds victory would be Rafa’s 100th Premiership win with the club.
History
The reds have only won 15 times in 81 visits to Old Trafford.
Last season saw a depressing 3-0 defeat, in a game in which Javier Mascherano was sent off.
Benitez has yet to beat United at Old Trafford, the last victory coming in the death throes of Gerard Houllier’s regime when Danny Murphy converted the penalty.
