As it happened: Aston Villa 1-2 LFC

Liverpool travel to Villa Park today, for the first time in over 3 and a half years, to take on a team eager to break out of mid-table.

A win for Villa could see them rise as high as 8th, whilst Liverpool will end the weekend in top  irrespective of result.

The 11th game of the season could be an opportunity for LFC to move past 30 points after an unbeaten start to the season - an unbeaten run that stretches all the way back into the start of 2019.

The reds have won four and lost one of the last 5 games in all competitions at Villa Park.

Both sides were drawn against each other in the Carabao Cup quarter final this week - a game that Liverpool may not be able to fix into a busy winter schedule.  The Anfield giants made 11 changes for the thrilling midweek cup win over Arsenal, and it is expected that there will be a similar number of changes for today.

Liverpool's form

The reds are aiming for a 28th consecutive unbeaten league game.

Liverpool's record against newly promoted teams has been equally impressive under Jurgen Klopp.  The reds have won the last 11 games against sides promoted from the Championship - that record stretches back more than two years to October 2017.

If selected, it could also be a return to Aston Villa for James Milner.  He made 100 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals in the process.
