Just like last pre-season, Dortmund put a dent in Liverpool's pre-season results column.

The reds were felled 3-1 in North Carolina last year, but this time around suffered a slightly improved scoreline of a 3-2 defeat.

In truth, this was a strong Dortmund side against a more junior Liverpool side in sweltering heat at the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.

There were just 2 of Liverpool's Champions League final starters involved for the reds in the first half of the game and it was Dortmund who struck first.

Paco Alcacer scoring the opening goal of the game after Nathaniel Clyne failed to clear the ball.

Liverpool had chances to equalise long before Harry Wilson did so in the 35th minute.

It was Fabinho who played in the ball (that Kent dummied) allowing Wilson to level the scores.

Dortmund made their 9 changes at half-time.  Liverpool were waiting until the hour mark.  And those fifteen minutes advantage sealed the game for Dortmund as they added two goals just after the half-time break.

After Mignolet could only beat a shot away for a corner, Thomas Delaney fired in after an assist by Thorgan Hazard.

Bruun-Larsen made it 3-1 to Dortmund shortly after and then it was time for Liverpool's extensive substitutions.

The likes of Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson and Wijnaldum all got their run out as part of 10 outfield changes for Klopp's side.

Needless to say, Liverpool didn't concede any more.

In fact, with 15 minutes to go, Ben Woodburn was bundled over in the box and Rhian Brewster was allowed the opportunity to take the spot kick.  He duly dispatched it.  His fourth goal of pre-season and it was now 3-2 to Dortmund.

Liverpool ran out of time in the hunt for an equaliser but it was a good run out as more members of the first team begin their involvement in pre-season.
