Coutinho on his way back as Klopp prepares for Southampton clash

Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho should be back in contention for a place in the Liverpool team for this weekend's Premier League game against Southampton.

Coutinho was an early casualty in the 1-0 win over Watford on Monday night - after two crunching tackles in the first 7 minutes of the game he failed to run off the injury and was substituted for Adam Lallana.

Speaking about Coutinho, the reds boss said:

'He was running yesterday.  We cannot be 100 per cent sure because we always have to wait to see how he improves, but in this moment, it looks rather positive.

Jordan Henderson remains out with no specified return date, Sadio Mane is around Melwood but not in contention for a place whilst Danny Ings is stepping up his training after his long layoff from a serious cruciate injury.

With Adam Lallana also now back available, Klopp is likely to reshuffle his starting eleven.  The reds have kept the same team for the past 3 matches.

The reds have three games left in the Premier League campaign and a win can take the side on to 72 points and a step closer to qualification for Europe's premier football competition next season.

The reds will be looking for their first goals against Southampton this season, having failed to net in the 3 previous meetings this season.  A 0-0 draw away in the Premier League was the best of the three results.

Liverpool lost 1-0 in both legs of the League Cup semi final in what turned out to be a horrible January for the reds.

Kick off at Anfield is 1:30pm UK time on Sunday.
