Matchday LIVE: Everton v Liverpool – Match Updates and Confirmed Teams for the Merseyside Derby

The 227th Merseyside derby tonight will be both managers first Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Last season's derby at Goodison was Brendan Rodgers last game in charge for the reds so Klopp manages the reds for the first time at Everton's home.

He was of course in charge for last seasons home game - the reds ran out easy 4-0 winners.

Everton start the day in 9th - a win can take them to 7th.  The reds start the day in 3rd, a win can take us clear into 2nd place by a point and cut the sizeable gap that Chelsea have at the top down to 6 points.

Everton at home and Liverpool away this season

- The blues are unbeaten at home this season under new boss Ronald Koeman - with 4 wins and 4 draws.  Scoring 6 times and conceding 12.

- Away from home Liverpool have won 5, drawn 2 and also lost 2 - scoring 19 goals but conceding 14 too.

As it happened...

Everton looking to end horrible run

Everton have won just once in the last 19 league meetings - their last win coming in October 2010.

Ronald Koeman highlighted this ahead of the game.

"The derby is all about the fans, we understand that but we need to be calm and prepare for the game in the way we like.

"It's about preparing the team. You have an emotional part that you need to control. That's the most important.

"Our recent record is not good. One derby win out of 19. We need to accept how difficult it is, win the game and make the fans happy."

17:40 UK
Origi and Lallana on fire

Origi has been on fire for the reds since he came back into the side - taking advantage of firstly an injury to Adam Lallana, and latterly ahead of the injured Coutinho and Sturridge.

He has scored a goal in each of his last 5 games.  Adam Lallana too has continued his fine form after recovering from injury.

Everton's Romelu Lukaku however has 5 goals in his last 8 games against LFC.

  1. Let’s have the Liverpool from last week and not the week before. Shame about Matip but Klavan hasn’t done much wrong yet for us. Only concern is Mignolet.
