Things are changing at Anfield as Liverpool's owners have returned to employing a Sporting Director.
37 year old Michael Edwards, previously Liverpool's technical director, will assume responsibility for players contracts and future transfer negotiations with immediate effect.
Damien Comolli was essentially the club's first sporting director (his role was Director of Football Strategy) in November 2010 - appointed shortly after Fenway Sports Group took control.
He left the summer that Brendan Rodgers was appointed as boss after the clubs owners expressed frustration at the money spent on the likes of Jordan Henderson.
Rodgers was not in favour of a sporting director and talked Fenway out of replacing Comolli.
It was Comolli who brought Edwards to Liverpool - initially as the Head of Performance and Analysis from his former club Tottenham Hotspur. He rose through the ranks to the recent role entitled 'Technical Director'.
Ian Ayre, who is Liverpool's current Chief Executive, leaves at the end of this season and has been handling contracts and transfers since 2012.
Jurgen Klopp has an excellent working relationship with Edwards and retains the final say on which players are brought in but can now leave financial decisions with a 'football confidante'.
Klopp worked with a sporting director for his entire career in Germany, it is something he prefers, and this move means Liverpool's next Chief Executive can focus solely on doing deals with the likes of doughnut retailers and crunching the numbers.
The indications are that LFC's next Chief Executive will be announced in the next few weeks from within the current Fenway board.
