Liverpool FC will make Georginio Wijnaldum, currently playing at Championship side Newcastle, their 6th most expensive transfer signing.
Since the news broke a few days ago of Liverpool's interest the reds have been working hard on securing a deal. Newcastle were adamant they wanted a minimum of £25M and with overnight developments in the Joe Allen situation the reds felt confident to match the valuation.
The Telegraph this morning reported that the two clubs have agreed a fee and that the 25 year old Wijnaldum will become the reds 5th senior summer signing.
Wijnaldum spent his formative years in the Dutch Eredivisie at both Feyenoord and PSV. The purple patch of his career to date coming at PSV where he scored 56 goals in 152 appearances.
He moved to the Premier League last year, signing for Newcastle for £14.5M on a five year deal. However his 11 goals in all 38 league games were insufficient to prevent them being relegated, even despite the arrival of Rafa Benitez for the final few games of the season.
Wijnaldum has travelled to Merseyside and will undergo a medical on Friday morning. He is expected to fly out to join the rest of the squad in the United States this weekend.
The reds will no longer pursue interest in Piotr Zielinksi.
i hope it will be a good signing for Liverpool fc
