Liverpool's league campaign may be winding down but Joe Allen signalled his intention to remain at the forefront of Jurgen Klopp's plans with an impressive performance.
There were huge team changes following Liverpool's pulsating victory over Villarreal on Thursday night.
The reds scored a goal in each half to gain some revenge for the defeat earlier in the season away at Watford.
Jurgen Klopp made eight changes from the midweek victory over Villarreal. Mignolet, Moreno and Coutinho the only players to keep their place in the side.
Joe Allen grabbed the games first goal when he reacted quickest to a Benteke knock down. In the second half Firmino drove a shot at Heurelio Gomez which the Watford keeper failed to hold. It trickled in to the Kop net.
Both Jordon Ibe and Christian Benteke had chances to increase Liverpool's lead but they failed to take them - maybe both of their final attempts in Liverpool shirts? Who knows.
Klopp was pleased at the end of the game:
"I'm really pleased for the young lads.
"In another situation you don't get these opportunities but we can give them. It's good for all of them."
The reds now have 10 games left of their season - a midweek game against Chelsea that will likely see some more familiar faces before a dead-rubber against West Brom at the weekend - which comes just 76 hours before a European final.
Liverpool maintain their interest in securing a Europa League finish - but West Ham remain in the driving seat for 6th place.
