Jamie Vardy struck two second half goals to ensure Leicester maintained their place at the top of the Premier League and effectively end any remote hopes for Liverpool of finishing in the top four.
Liverpool despite good periods of play continued with their problems of the past 18 months of being completely inept in front of goal.
The reds were gifted a huge number of corners throughout the game but wasted every one.
And it was a moment of magic from Vardy, while Liverpool's £32M Benteke was brought on to next to no effect.
On a day that the reds signalled their intention to increase the maximum price of match and season tickets and coming a day after the reds failed to bring in a striker in the transfer window then Liverpool's season shows little sign of improving.
Klopp picked a more senior side than the previous two cup matches - with the likes of Sakho, Lovren and Moreno in defence - Henderson, Can, Lucas and Milner in midfield - and Firmino and Lallana aiming to provide the attacking impetus.
Except there was not much of it.
The reds chances were limited to shots skied over the bar and Moreno almost grabbed a reds goal in the second half when his on-target shot was such a surprise to Schmeichel that he had to punch it clear. Earlier Moreno had fired it almost out the ground from 8 yards out.
Liverpool had at least 8 corners in the first half - but the majority were short and untidy - usually resulting in a break for Leicester. The occasions a corner found it's way into the box it was Leicester who easily cleared.
In fact at the first sign of danger the Leicester defence appeared to favour putting the ball out for a corner rather than heading back to their own keeper - they had no fear of Liverpool's set pieces.
Mahrez was a constant thorn in the reds side. Mignolet first half had two fine saves - tipping over from Okazaki early on from point blank range before touching a Mahrez drilled shot over the bar later in the half.
But on the hour Vardy showed the gulf in quality. From a move that saw Can manage to be caught by three separate Leicester players the ball was played through to the Premier League hotshot who lobbed the ball over Mignolet with pace.
After the game he said he had noticed that Mignolet was often far off his line and thought it was 'worth a go'.
Well worth a go.
Meanwhile Liverpool were trying to recreate the 8-bit game Match Day - trying to walk it in to the net. Failing to take shots at the edge of the box when they could play a couple of passes through the area.
There were very little clear cut chances for the reds who look a side not only well off the top four, but also in danger of falling out the top half of the league.
Vardy wrapped things up 20 minutes from time - this time beating both Mignolet and Lovren at the back post with a more typical goal for an English striker.
The reds had brought on our £32M 'striker' who at least once did manage to get within 7 yards of a cross.
Liverpool will need to get much better if they expect fans to shell out £77 for tickets next season.
