Liverpool have sold Mark Gonzalez to Real Betis for a fee of approximately £4.2 million.
Mark has been officially unveiled along with three other signings at Betis by new boss Hector Cuper. Rafa Benitez had tracked Mark Gonzalez for a while before his arrival at Anfield last summer. He was originally signed from Albacete in October 2005 for around £3 million, but after problems gaining a work permit he spent the 2005/06 season on loan in La Liga – initially with Albacete and then with Real Sociedad.
The player began his career at Liverpool in the summer of 2006 but failed to make the necessary impact at Anfield.
He found it difficult to settle both on and off the pitch and suffered to some extent with injuries. He made a total of 37 appearances for Liverpool (most of them from off the bench) – scoring three goals.
The sale reduces Liverpool’s net summer spending to £16 million.
We wish Mark Gonzalez all the best in his career.
I am very sad because Gonzalez was a good player.I think that he was not given enough opportunity to prove himself.I was counting much on him for this season but unfortunately he has gone.I wish him good luck!
I am soooooooooooooo sad to see you go! You should have been given another season to settle. I think you are brilliant, gonna miss you. Good luck with your career and i hope you do well wherever you go mate! You will never Walk alone!

I am relieved that he has gone. He will do well in spain so everyone is a winner.
That was a nice move by Benitez. Mark has ny been palying well for the club and he needed to be repalced by other players
He just wasnt good enough and coulnt rely on him to make things happen but i feel we should have given him more time. Maybe sent him on loan to an English or Scotish club to get experience.
Wouldnt be surprised if he is the next diego forlan and is snapped up in a year or two for £15 million up
sorry peeps he’s a bit like cisse too fast and hardly any skill so you see them fall over their own feet to often, but as a real lfc fan i would like to wish speedy gonzalez well.
Mark Gonzalez was a nice lad but just never looked to have the class we needed for him to make his mark on the Premiership. I know all the arguments about needing time to settle and so forth but he had the look of a Spanish player who would not make the adjustment to English football. Generally speaking, the ones who can make the adjustment show signs of making it in their first few months.
I absolutely wish ‘Speedy’ all the best in his career at Betis and thank him for his efforts while a Red. He can’t be classed as a failure for us, he cost us £3 million and we sold him for a profit of £1.2 million which is fair enough.
My concern is that we have still not found an out and out left winger so we are reliant on Harry Kewell to get back to top form, remain injury-free and do the business. I know Riise can play there but he is not a real winger either. Pennant can play either side though I prefer him on the right.
I am sure Rafa is either happy enough with the players he has or will still bring another in.
He was born in South Africa so I really enjoyed seeing on the pitch. Personally I think he should have got one more season to prove himself
i’m sorry to see gonzalez go, i think they ought to have given him more time too.
(i like his hair!)
Good luck Gonzo.
It is a shame, because rafa had put so much faith in him, and then he actually started well, he was crossing well and scoring the odd goal or two. i remember 1 he scored in the CL.
i would have kept in because of kewell’s dodgy injuries, we now only have ONE natural left winger, as babel is a converted left winger.
did we make a profit on him?
Good Luck Mate

Good luck Gonzo
YNWA !!!
i wish him well. i donot think they gave him enough time.
I will certainly miss him. I hope he helps betis in la liga.
They wont make it to the champions league so I’m not worried about him playing against him.
You’ll never walk alone.
