MATCH REPORT - Crewe 1-1 Liverpool |
Vaughan 19 Harry Kewell limped out of Liverpool's friendly draw at Crewe with an ankle injury. But Anthony Le Tallec and Florent-Sinama Pongolle made their debuts for the Reds. Le Tallac played for 46 minutes and Pongolle was on the field for 26 minutes, with both of the French youngsters suggesting they will make an impact at the club this season. Crewe took the lead against their illustrious opponents through David Vaughan after 19 minutes, converting David Wright's cross with a glancing header. Michael Owen continued his fine pre-season form with Liverpool's equaliser on the stroke of half-time. The England striker scored twice as Liverpool defeated Cologne in a friendly on Wednesday. Owen had earlier been denied by a fine save from Clayton Ince, but made no mistake from short range. Liverpool made wholesale changes at half-time and the Reds created numerous second-half chances but could not convert any of them. Pongolle almost marked his debut with a goal but both he and Emile Heskey were denied by the woodwork.
